NASA's first spacesuit was for the Mercury program. Mercury was the first planet that astronauts went to wearnig their spacesuits for the Mercury program. But the astronauts only wore their spacesuits in the space craft.
Space-walking astronauts face a wide variety of temperatures. A spacesuit protects astronauts from those extreme temperatures. Spacesuits supply oxygen for astronauts so they can breathe. Spacesuits contain water for the astronauts to drink during space-walks. These unique spacesuits protect astronauts from being injured from impacts of small bits of spacedust.
